SEC Codes

Standard Entry Class (SEC) Codes classify various types of electronic payments, offering crucial context for understanding the nature and purpose of each transaction.

The standardEntryClass parameter should be filled with a SEC code.

This table provides a comprehensive list of ACH Standard Entry Class (SEC) codes used within the API People API.

ACKAcknowledgment EntriesIdentifies an acknowledgment of receipt by the RDFI of corporate credit payments originated using the CCD format. Non-Consumer.
ATXFinancial EDI AcknowledgmentIdentifies an acknowledgment of receipt by the RDFI of corporate payments originated using CTX format.
ARCAccounts Receivable EntryA single debit entry to an account initiated for purchases or payments that are made in person, via US mail, or placing the payment in a dropbox.
BOCBack Office Conversion EntryA single debit entry to an account for in-person purchases or payments made at the point-of-purchase.
CCDCorporate Credit/Debit EntryFunds are transferred between unrelated corporate entities or transferred as intra-company cash concentration.
CIECustomer-Initiated EntryA single credit entry initiated by a consumer (originator) to a non-consumer account. CIE is a consumer-initiated credit entry, a credit push to a merchant, typically used by a financial institution’s or third-party’s bill pay service and would be not be Originated by a merchant.
CORNotification of Change or Refused Notification of ChangeThis Standard Entry Class Code is used by an RDFI or ODFI when originating a Notification of Change or Refused Notification of Change in automated format. It is also used by the ACH operator that converts paper Notifications of Change to automated format.
CTXCorporate Trade ExchangeFunds are transferred between trading partners with a full ANSI ASC X12 message or payment related UN/EDIFACT information is sent with the transfer.
DNEDeath Notification EntryA non-monetary entry from a Federal Government agency. Notifies the Financial Institution that the recipient of a government benefit has passed away. Consumer.
ENRAutomated Enrollment EntryA Non-Monetary Entry that triggers the origination of ACH credit or debit transactions to the account holder at the DFI. The ENR process allows DFIs to transmit information to Federal Government agencies, on behalf of their account holders, that serves as enrollment for either ACH credit or debit activity.
IATInternational ACH TransactionCredit or Debit Entry is part of a payment transaction that involves a financial agency’s office not located within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States.
MTEMachine Transfer EntryThe ACH Network supports the clearing of transactions from automated teller machines, i.e., Machine Transfer Entries (MTE).
POPPoint-of-Purchase EntryA single debit entry to an account for in-person purchases or payments made at the point of purchase. Check is voided by merchant and returned to check writer.
PPDPrearranged Payment and Deposit Entry
  • Credit Payment: A single or recurring credit transaction for payment of payroll, expense reimbursement, dividends, retirement, interest, etc.
  • Debit Payment: A single or recurring debit transaction for collection of fixed or variable amounts for loan and mortgage payments, utilities, insurance, tuition, contributions, etc.
RCKRe-Presented Check EntryRe-presentment of check processed through the check collection system for insufficient or uncollected funds. Check returned NSF or uncollected funds represented electronically.
TELTelephone-Initiated EntryA single or recurring debit transaction initiated orally via the telephone.
TRCTruncated EntryEntry (debit) initiated under a Check Truncation Program.
TRXTruncated Entries Exchange EntryEntry (debit) initiated under a Check Truncation Program.
WEBInternet-Initiated Entry
  • Credit Payment: A single or recurring credit transaction from the account of a natural person to the account of a natural person. Cannot be used for business-to-consumer transactions.
  • Debit Payment: A single or recurring debit transaction initiated during a secure (minimum 128-bit encryption) internet or mobile session.
XCKDestroyed Check EntrySingle entry for collecting lost/destroyed checks, OR a check that is damaged so that a processable image cannot be made OR the check image is un-processable. XCK is for bank use only.
